Considering the persistence of gender discrimination and gaps in the application of equal opportunities within the member countries of the European Union, “GENERA” project aims at raising new generations awareness about gender equality and social inclusion-related issues.
This goal will be achieved through a youth exchange that will take place in Italy from the 6th to the 17th of May 2019 and which will involve a group of 28 people: 24 young people, including 12 boys and 12 girls, and 4 group leaders, coming from Italy, Poland, Sweden and Greece.
Among the 6 participants expected for each partner, each group leader must select 3 girls and 3 boys, in order to put into practice, from the beginning, the principles that will then be discussed during the mobility.
The exchange will focus on Workshop activities to foster young people’s interest and to encourage them to actively engage in countering gender discrimination. Issues related to the role of women in contemporary society, equal opportunities and respect between men and women, will be discussed during thematic sessions, problem solving exercises and group work. In addition, there will also be socialization activities and cultural activities, aiming at strengthening the spirit of the group and promoting intercultural knowledge.
The informal and non-formal educational techniques will be emphasized, because they ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills by learners, making them protagonists of activities based on group cooperation and interpersonal exchange.
In the long run, thanks to the participation in "GENERA", young people will be more open-minded and able to recognize and overcome gender stereotypes and prejudices; they will improve their relation skills in a multicultural context and will spread values of social inclusion, gender equality, as well as civic engagement and respect for diversity.
As far as partner organizations are concerned, they will be protagonists of a process of sharing experiences and skills in the field of equal opportunities and gender equality, representing the origin of a new European network in the sector.
