ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ

Young people in Europe are being radicalised by extremist groups, whose goals are misguidedly violent.
They undergo a process of psychological deformation, as a result of which they become capable of hostile
acts.

We will consider the ways in which extremists consciously manipulate vulnerable people and how this
process can be resisted or reversed. Alongside this explorative work, we will share tools and techniques of
theatre, which can illuminate the subject of radicalisation (e.g. the hero’s journey, image theatre) as well as
actor’s exercises for developing a stronger voice and greater personal charisma.

We will take “Macbeth” as our study text, exploring the downward path of darkness taken by its central
character. We will devise a live performance, depicting the process of psychological corruption he undergoes
and its tragic results. In the light of Macbeth’s experiences, we will consider ways to work creatively with
people in danger of radicalisation to be used and further developed by our participants in their home
countries.
