ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ

"Empower The Willpower" is a mobility for 30 youth workers coming from Poland, Croatia, Serbia,
Lithuania, Turkey, Georgia, Greece, Italy and Romania. All the participating organizations work
with and for youth, and we seek for constant improvement of our professional skills and
competences linked to our work. We provide education for youth, and we want to do it in a best
possible way.
While brainstorming on the ways for improvement, we figured out that teaching and dealing with
young people would be so much easier and more effective if they had a strong willpower to gain
that knowledge and skills they are taught. Self-discipline is an important part of what students learn
in school, however many approaches to discipline overlook this fact. Instead their focus is mainly
on teacher-directed managing of students rather than on student learning. If we see discipline as an
instructional issue, we begin to understand that our real aim is not getting students to behave, but to
teach them to take responsibility for their own behavior.
"Empower The Willpower" was created to teach educators (youth workers, teachers) how to help
their students develop the skills to manage and regulate their behavior more effectively, and to use
methods for teaching and reinforcing key self-discipline skills. The project discovers the process of
teaching and supporting the willpower both with individual students and with groups. It addresses
the most immediate and pressing needs of teachers and youth workers, and also provides a
framework for developing long range goals and lessons. The project aims to introduce the concept
of self-discipline and to show how it can be viewed as a curriculum content area. The point of this
project is also to make the participants aware that self-discipline is learnable, and can be acquired
through practising the skill.

Each country group will be responsible for preparation of one activity. Participants will have a
chance to lead their sessions on chosen topics, established and prepared before the training. This
will allow to engage with the ideas ahead of time and formulate questions in preparation for the
sessions. It will also give the opportunity to indicate preferences for specific sessions and activities.
While preparing the activities, the participants should keep in mind the following qualities:
• The activity needs to be in line with the topic and the objectives of this project;
• The activity must take a form of one of non-formal education methods.

During the project we will discuss and exchange our ideas and experiences and inspire each other,
as well as learn new methods, strategies and tools for teaching self-discipline. The trainers will
introduce the concept of it and show how it can be viewed as a curriculum content area, by
implementing the following sessions:
• Thinking About Self-Discipline and Observing Student Behavior
• Turning Problems of Discipline into Self-Discipline Goal
• Managing Performance
• Managing Motivation
• Managing Judgements
• Planning and Monitoring Teaching Lessons
• Managing Habits
• Managing School Goals and Personal Goals
• Participants-Led Sessions
• Cultural Evenings
