Inclusion is one of the biggest challenges nowadays with the current situation all over the Europe. This topic is a high priority in the Erasmus+ program: “Europe needs more cohesive and inclusive societies which allow citizens to play an active role in democratic life. Education and youth work are key to promote common European values, foster social integration, enhance intercultural understanding and a sense of belonging to a community, and to prevent violent radicalisation. Erasmus+ is an effective instrument to promote the inclusion of people with disadvantaged backgrounds.”
We consider youth workers as professionals for who inclusion is an important part of their work. In particular ‘youth at risk’ is an important target group for youth workers: Young persons who feel excluded, disappointed, with little confidence and self-esteem are in a danger to get involved in extreme groups. Youth workers deliver important work with looking for young persons who dropped out. In this field innovation is a part of professional development and very important to invest in.
We believe that Inner Leadership serves the young persons and youth workers in inclusion. Inner Leadership means: learning to make your own decisions and actions, and pay responsibility to your own decisions and actions. This means that you are the owner of your life because Inner Leadership gives direction to the life you want to life as a young person. Taking care, empathy and express yourself in many different ways are key points in this process. We use methods which are appropriate to detect feelings, values and senses under the surface, but also as a prevention tool by stimulating experiencing feelings and commitment on a deeper level, which can avoid exclusion and isolation.
A European project as this one is a great opportunity to see the issues in a different perspective and learn from different countries and cultures by sharing knowledge about new tools and more clarification about a common understanding of inclusion. It's also important to build a better European network and movement for young persons.

Overall Aim

The overall aim of the TC is to increase the awareness of personal strengths and authenticity among youth workers during a personal journey of self-discovery. From this individual reflection our participants take the active step of commitment with each other by sharing and experiencing. We stimulate our participants to support the young people they work with to guide them in their learning process as full, authentic persons. Our participants do this by applying their own learning process to their young people after the training course.

- To support youth workers to become more aware of themselves, thus to enable them to make conscious choices and decisions that fit with the core of their identity and their goals in life (Inner Leadership).
- To frame a learning process where youth workers feel commitment and inclusion by sharing and experience.
- To look how you can rely on powerless, inconvenient feelings and deal constructively with them (resilience).
- To provide youth workers with tools to support a deep connection with young persons they work with through a similar process.
- To make a clear transition from the learning process in the TC to the daily reality back home after the TC.
- To reflect on their own learning process by using the Key Competences from the Youth Pass and give the opportunity for capacity building in the context of the Erasmus+ Program.

Approach and Methodology

This training course will be based on non-formal and informal education with a self-directed learning approach. That means that the participants are responsible for their own learning and the facilitators provide activities and guide the participants through their own learning process. We, the trainers, will give the responsibility of learning back to the trainees. The trainers guide the trainees through this learning process and they learn with them. The training course will be characterised by highly participatory, interactive and experiential methods. The working methods will include case studies, working in pairs and small groups, contemplations, team building activities, discussions, and self-assessment. Some sessions will be complemented by theoretical inputs, and all of them will be followed by group reflection or self-reflection.
