The project “Are we what we eat? Testing – Discovering – Learning 2.0” is a youth exchange
involving 30 young people coming from 5 countries: Belgium, Albania, Greece, Italy and Spain.
It will take place in Molenbeek-Saint Jean (Brussels) from the 30th of July until the 5th of August 2015.
This exchange is a follow up to a first Intermundia youth exchange that took place in Brussels in
September 2014 with 4 other countries. The idea of giving birth to a “2.0 version” of the first
exchange is the result of a network that Intermundia have created with the partner associations,
met over the course of 2014 in different international training courses.
The main topic of the exchange will be intercultural learning and the fight against cultural
prejudices through food and eating habits, including reflecting upon the connection between the
way you eat and health. Participants will identify differences and similarities among traditional food
cultures of the involved countries. The activities will involve sharing one’s own food culture with the
others, getting to know similarities and differences of every country’s culture: through workshops
and non-formal education activities the participants will discover more about the other countries, in
order to eliminate barriers and prejudices among them. The participants will also be involved in
workshops about using leftovers, nutrition, recycling and environmental issues. Food will be the
instrument for this exchange of experiences. The Slow Food Youth Network, an international
network of young people who bring about changes in the field of food production and consumption,
will actively collaborate in the project, as they did in the previous edition of the exchange.
The final document will be a video containing 5 recipes made of leftovers, created by the
participants during the days of the exchange. These recipes will be the result of different workshops
and working groups where they will have invented their own recipes not to waste food. The video
will be uploaded on a web platform and Facebook group where the participants will be free to share
contents even after the exchange. The contents of this exchange will also be available on
Intermundia’s webpage as well as on those of partner associations, thus ensuring visibility and follow
up to the experience.
Participating countries: Belgium, Albania, Greece, Italy and Spain
Venue: Participants will be hosted in the youth hostel “Waterman” in
Molenbeek-Saint Jean, one of the more characteristic neighbours of Brussels
